Match Format

All regular kids and adult divisions use a round robin format. Absolute divisions use a single elimination format.

Kids Matches

Match Length

Kids matches are 3 minutes long. If no submission is reached, the match goes to overtime: a 1-minute overtime period (one offense, one defense). The fastest escape or submission wins.

Kids Overtime Rule Update

For safety, kids are only allowed the back control option in overtime. The armbar option is not permitted for kids divisions.

Adult Matches

Match Length

Adult matches are 5 minutes long. If no submission is reached, the match goes to overtime — a 2-minute overtime period (one offense, one defense). The fastest escape or submission wins.

Absolute Divisions

Match Length

Absolute division matches are 6 minutes long. If no submission is reached, the match goes to a 2-minute overtime period.

Absolute Finals

In the Finals, full EBI standard overtime is used — three 2-minute overtime periods (three offense, three defense). The fastest escape or submission wins.

Mollywhomp Rule

FSO Superfights and Squads events may implement the Aggressive Mollywhomp Rule:

While in the regulation portion of the match, if one competitor offensively and/or positionally dominates the entire match, displaying superior grappling ability, the referee may declare that competitor the winner at the end of regulation. The match will NOT go to overtime. Don't plan to stall for overtime. Push the action.

Referee's discretion.
